Changing What's Possible at the 2015 ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit

When the sixth annual ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit convenes outside Washington, D.C., next week, more than 2,000 technologists, entrepreneurs, investors, industry experts and government thought leaders will gather to discuss America’s most pressing energy issues -- and to find ways to move promising new energy technologies out of the lab and into the market.

As the nation’s preeminent energy innovation event, this annual conference and technology showcase attracts experts from different technical disciplines and professional communities to think about America’s complex energy challenges in new ways. The Summit offers a unique three-day program full of insightful keynotes and impactful networking sessions, as well as a firsthand look at hundreds of emerging new energy technologies.

EXPERT KEYNOTE SPEAKERS AND PANEL DISCUSSIONS

ARPA-E has once again tapped an exciting lineup of prominent keynote speakers for this year’s Summit, including U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz, newly confirmed ARPA-E Director Ellen Williams, former U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, University of California President Janet Napolitano, SolarCity Founder and CEO Lyndon Rive, and CPS Energy President and CEO Doyle Beneby, among others. They will offer expert insights on challenges facing the energy industry, and how the adoption of game-changing new technologies could solve these challenges. The Summit’s panels will feature commentary and Q&A from experts on a variety of topics, such as grid decentralization, natural gas, solar financing models and wide band-gap semiconductor technologies.

BEST-IN-CLASS TECHNOLOGY SHOWCASE

This year’s Summit Technology Showcase is gearing up to be the biggest yet, with more than 250 groundbreaking technologies -- many on public display for the first time -- from ARPA-E-funded project teams and a select group of private companies and research organizations. At the Showcase, Summit attendees will also get a chance to get an up-close look at the world’s first 3D-printed, fully operational electric vehicle, the Local Motors Strati, and the Oshkosh Defense® Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement with ProPulse® On-board Vehicle Power Kit, which is charting new territory in mobile power generation and performance capabilities for forward-deployed U.S. Marines. Technology Showcase attendees will not only get a firsthand look at state-of-the-art and emerging energy technologies, but also they will have an opportunity to network with technologists and entrepreneurs who are ready to collaborate on strategic partnerships, licensing and investment opportunities.

FOCUSED NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES

This year’s Summit will also feature smaller, focused networking sessions around energy technologies such as natural gas, semiconductors and energy storage. Summit attendees will also have an opportunity to engage with notable energy industry experts in group settings through tailored networking events such as the Women in Energy Breakfast, the State and Global Networking Event and the Federal Government Agency Networking Program. Additionally, this year’s Corporate Acceleration Program will be larger than ever -- pairing nearly 30 corporate partners, investors and utilities with technologists to collaborate on research and development efforts to move promising technologies forward.
