In December 2010, Congress reauthorized the America Creating Opportunities to Meaningfully Promote Excellence in Technology, Education, and Science (America COMPETES) Act, which established the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) within the Department of Energy (DOE). ARPA-E was initially authorized in the August 2007 America COMPETES Act, Public Law 110-69.
