Reducing CAPEX for Energy-Efficient Building Controls

ARPA-E held a workshop on "Reducing CAPEX for Energy-Efficient Building Controls" on October 23rd at ARPA-E's office in Washington, DC.

This workshop convened leading experts in building science, control systems, and computer science to identify innovative research paths to increase the adoption of energy-saving building controls by reducing one-off design and installation costs. Specific technologies of interest included adaptive controls, online model learning, predictive analytics, automated fault detection and correction, and data fusion from new sources. Application areas include residential and commercial air-conditioned spaces, but will focus on the challenges of small and medium sized multi-zone systems. 

The purpose of this workshop was to inform the research community of an area of interest to ARPA-E and to obtain input on leading technical approaches. However, no targeted program in this area is currently under development.
