Program Directors

Dr. Jennifer Gerbi currently serves as the Associate Director for Technology and a Program Director at the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E), responsible for supporting the Deputy Director for Technology in oversight of all technology issues relating to ARPA-E’s programs as well as assisting with program development, Program Director and Fellow recruitment, and coordinating project management across the Agency. 

Dr. David Babson currently serves as a Program Director at the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA‑E). His focus at ARPA-E includes bioenergy, agricultural systems innovation, and carbon management.

Dr. Zak Fang currently serves as a Program Director at the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA‑E). His focus at ARPA-E is on advanced materials and manufacturing technologies for energy production, storage, and efficiency applications.

Dr. Mario Garcia-Sanz

Dr. Mario Garcia-Sanz currently serves as a Program Director at the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E). His focus at ARPA-E includes advanced control engineering, wind energy systems, renewable and conventional power generation, electrical distribution systems, smart grid technologies, and water treatment plants and networks. 

ARPA-E Program Director Michael Haney

Dr. Michael Haney is a Special Government Employee and Program Director Emeritus at the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) where he serves as a consultant on programs related to the application of integrated optics and photonics technologies for energy-efficient computing, switching, signal processing, and power conversion.

 

ARPA-E Program Director Dr. Kory Hedman

Dr. Kory Hedman currently serves as a Program Director at the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E). His focus at ARPA-E includes electric power systems, power systems operations and planning, management of renewable and distributed resources, power flow control technologies, and electric energy markets.

Dr. Scott Hsu currently serves as a Program Director at the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA‑E). His focus at ARPA-E is on potentially transformative R&D to enable timely commercial fusion energy.

ARPA-E Program Director Dr. Joseph King

Dr. Joseph King currently serves as a Program Director at the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E). His focus at ARPA-E includes oil and gas efficiencies, thermoelectric conversion, and next generation battery technology.

Dr. Isik C. Kizilyalli currently serves as a Program Director at the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E). Kizilyalli’s focus at ARPA-E includes power electronics, wide bandgap semiconductors, electronic systems for hostile environments, electrification of transport (aviation, ships, automotive), subsurface instrumentation, novel drilling concepts, medium voltage DC distribution grids, and grid resiliency against EMP and space weather threats. 

Dr. Robert Ledoux currently serves as a Program Director at the Advanced Research Projects Agency—Energy. His areas of interest include the intersection of nuclear physics and non-proliferation, energy production, and transportation.
