Advanced Building Energy Technologies Workshop
ARPA-E and the Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) held a workshop on the topic of advanced building energy technologies on December 15, 2009 in Arlington, VA. The objectives of this workshop were to gain a deeper understanding of those areas and technologies that have the highest potential to meet DOE's goal of developing the technical foundations necessary to enable massive reductions in energy consumption in buildings. The following topical areas were considered:
- Measurement and Communication
- Simulation and Computation
- Integrated Systems Approach to Fault Diagnostics and Controls
- Active and Passive Thermal Components
This workshop served as an opportunity to bring together thought-leaders from diverse technical communities to collectively develop new directions in systems, information and components for the built environment. Information gained from the workshop will assist ARPA-E and EERE leadership in the development of potential programs and funding opportunities which target key technological roadblocks relevant to their respective missions.
