Bolder Today, Brighter Tomorrow: Day 1 of the 2024 ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit

The Summit kicked off with opening remarks from Director Evelyn Wang, in which she announced the Vision OPEN program, a $150 million dollar funding opportunity challenging America's energy innovation community to create a net zero future.

The 2024 ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit was in full swing here in Dallas, Texas. The Summit kicked off with opening remarks from Director Evelyn Wang, in which she announced the Vision OPEN program, a $150 million dollar funding opportunity challenging America's energy innovation community to create a net zero future.

Her Keynote was immediately followed by a Panel Address from Shayle Kann, Managing Partner at Energy Impact Partners, Christina Karapataki, Partner at Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Scott Nyquist, Senior Advisor at McKinsey & Company, and Vice Chairman at the Houston Energy Transition Initiative, and Yaniv Tepper, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at the Angeleno Group. The panel discussed leveraging relationships for insights and expert advice in the energy innovation community and the ins and outs of launching, investing, and scaling climate companies.

Director Wang then returned to the Main Stage for a Fireside Chat with Dr. KR Sridhar, CEO at Bloom Energy. They discussed looking outside the echo chamber for energy innovation insights and increasing accessibility to clean energy technologies.

Afterwards, the Government Agency Networking Program (GANP) took place, a networking event that provided an opportunity to meet with representatives from the DOD, DOE, and other federal government agencies to discuss research interests, funding solicitations, grants, and other potential partnership opportunities. This was followed by the Female Founders and Funders event where folks gathered for a discussion on a wide array of technologies.

Breakout Panels and Fast Pitches were followed by the ARPA-E Performer Investor Networking Event, an open, reception-style event that brought together ARPA-E performers, researchers, entrepreneurs, and investors to discuss research interests and potential areas for collaboration.

Day 1 ended with the popular Technology Showcase – our largest ever with 400+ exhibitors. ARPA-E awardees and a select group of external organizations gathered on the Showcase floor to exhibit groundbreaking energy technologies. Attendees had the opportunity to interface directly with the teams working on these technologies and experiencing some of their work in real life.
