WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Energy today announced the first wave of speakers for the Advanced Research Project Agency-Energy’s (ARPA-E) Energy Innovation Summit, to be held February 27, 2017 through March 1, 2017 in National Harbor, Md. These experts sit at the forefront of energy innovation and entrepreneurship, underscoring ARPA-E’s mission of advancing transformative energy technologies to improve U.S. energy security and economic competitiveness: 

- Lynn Good, chairman, president and CEO of Duke Energy

- L. Rafael Reif, president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology 

- Jeffrey Sachs, university professor and director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University

- Thomas Siebel, founder, chairman and CEO of C3 IoT

- Thomas Hager, author of The Alchemy of Air

- Saul Griffith, founder and CEO of Otherlab

ARPA-E will announce additional speakers as the Summit date approaches. 

“The ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit represents the Department’s commitment to advancing breakthrough technologies that are critical for our energy and economic future,” said ARPA-E Director Dr. Ellen D. Williams. “The summit is an excellent opportunity to learn about the next generation of groundbreaking energy technologies, and we are delighted to host a diverse array of speakers to spark a discussion about what the future holds.” 

Now in its eighth year, the ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit draws more than 2,200 participants from across the United States and 25 countries to discuss cutting-edge energy issues and cultivate relationships with leaders from industry, government and academia to advance technologies towards deployment. The ARPA-E Summit will also feature a variety of breakout sessions led by today’s top minds in energy.

The Technology Showcase at the ARPA-E summit features more than 275 innovative technologies from across all energy sectors, including prototypes and commercial-ready products—many on public display for the first time. The showcase brings ARPA-E awardees and other top technologists together with investors and corporate decision makers who are looking to transform how energy is created, used, and stored.
