WASHINGTON— The Energy Department’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) today announced $33 million in funding for 12 innovative projects as part of ARPA-E’s newest program Network Optimized Distributed Energy Systems (NODES). NODES project teams will develop technologies that coordinate load and generation on the grid to create a virtual energy storage system.
The U.S. Department of Energy today announced that U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy and the President of the World Bank Group Dr. Jim Yong Kim will serve as keynote speakers for the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy’s (ARPA-E) Energy Innovation Summit, which will be held from Feb. 29 – March 2, 2016 in National Harbor, Md. In addition, other renowned speakers at the Summit will include Xerox Chief Technology Officer Dr. Sophie Vandebroek, BASF Corporation Chairman and CEO Wayne T. Smith, and General Electric Vice Chair Beth Comstock. Additional speakers will be announced as the agenda is finalized.
U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz today announced $125 million across 41 cutting-edge energy technologies awarded by the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E). These new projects are funded under ARPA-E’s OPEN 2015 program and come in advance of the COP21 U.N. Climate Negotiations in Paris next week. The announcement was made at D.C. technology incubator 1776 at an event that focused on leveraging America’s top innovators to find technological solutions to combat climate change, enhance security and solve pressing energy challenges around the globe.
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) today announced up to $30 million in funding for a new program focused on improving the energy efficiency of commercial and residential buildings. ARPA-E’s Single-pane Highly Insulating Efficient Lucid Designs (SHIELD) program seeks to reduce heat-loss for improved building efficiency by developing innovative materials that are both transparent and insulating to retrofit existing single-pane window.

The Energy Department’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) today announced $14.5 million in funding for five innovative projects as part of ARPA-E’s newest program, the Traveler Response Architecture using Novel Signaling for Network Efficiency in Transportation (TRANSNET).
ARPA-E has announced another Financial Assistance Funding Opportunity for eligible Small Businesses Concerns under the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program. This SBIR/STTR Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is a companion program to GENerators for Small Electrical and Thermal Systems (GENSETS) program (12 new GENSETS projects were announced last month), which is aimed at developing generator technologies that will enable more affordable and efficient residential Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems.
The Energy Department’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) today announced $55 million in funding for 18 innovative projects as part of ARPA-E’s two newest programs: GENerators for Small Electrical and Thermal Systems (GENSETS) and Transportation Energy Resources from Renewable Agriculture (TERRA).
ARPA-E recently announced it is making funding available for a new program. The Generating Realistic Information for Development of Distribution And Transmission Algorithms (GRID DATA) program seeks to fund the development of large-scale, realistic, validated, and open-access electric power system network models (transmission and distribution) that have the detail required for the successful development and testing of transformational power system optimization and control algorithms. The program will also fund the creation of an open-access, self-sustaining repository for the storage, annotation, and curation of these power system models, as well as others generated by the community.
The Energy Department’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) today announced $60 million in funding for 23 groundbreaking new projects aimed at creating highly efficient and scalable dry-cooling technologies for thermoelectric power plants and developing prototype technologies to explore new pathways for fusion power.
