Below is information on ARPA-E’s SCALEUP portfolio of programs.
SCALEUP Ready
In October 2024, ARPA-E announced up to $50 million in open-ended funding for the commercial scale-up of disruptive energy technologies. SCALEUP Ready marks the first time the funding opportunity is open on an ongoing basis.
SCALEUP 2023
In June 2024, ARPA-E selected 4 projects to receive over $63 million as part of the SCALEUP 2023 cohort. The four projects are focused on energy-efficient insulated glass units, thermal batteries, energy-dense solid state batteries, and cement decarbonization.
SCALEUP 2021
In late 2022, ARPA-E selected 8 projects to receive approximately $100 million as part of the SCALEUP 2021 cohort. These SCALEUP projects include aircraft electrification, rapid electric vehicle charging, advanced floating offshore wind turbine technologies, and more.
SCALEUP 2019
ARPA-E announced its SCALEUP 2019 selectees in early 2021 with a budget of approximately $75 million. The types of projects in this SCALEUP cohort address methane emissions detection, electrical energy storage, energy efficiency technologies, and grid modernization.
