Concluding the 2022 ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit
In our final day at the 2022 ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit, we started with ‘Coffee with ARPA-E,’ a continuation of yesterday’s event where folks had the opportunity to network with and learn from ARPA-E leadership, program directors, tech-to-market advisors, and fellows about opportunities related to ARPA-E and discussions about moving transformational technologies out of the lab and into the market.
Following ‘Coffee with ARPA-E,’ morning breakout sessions consisted of three panels on government funding, decarbonization, and electric grid infrastructure.
Breakout panels included:
- Government funding innovation, with Shane Kosinski, Deputy Director of Operations of ARPA-E, Ben Levine, Senior Advisor at the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology U.S. Department of Transportation, Dr. Francesco Matteucci, Programme Manager for Materials for Energy and Environmental Sustainability at the European Innovation Council, and Graciela L. Narcho, Deputy Assistant Director at the Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships at the National Science Foundation.
- Opportunities and Challenges in Decarbonization of Industry, with Dr. Paul Glaser, Chief Engineer for Propulsion, Power and Thermodynamic Systems at GE Research, Lara Cottingham, Chief of Staff at Greentown Labs, and Dr. Gulay Serhatkulu, Senior Vice President, Performance Materials, North America at BASF.
- Rethinking Solutions for the Resilience, Reliability, and Security of Electric Grid Infrastructure, with Patrick McHugh, Senior Vice President, Electric Operations at Consolidated Edison, Prof. Michael Mooney, Grewcock University Endowed Chair and Professor at Colorado School of Mines, Dr. Srinivas Siripurapu, Chief Research & Development Officer and Chief Innovation Officer at Prysmian Group, and Katherine Hamilton, Chair at 38 North Solutions.

Following a networking break, we had a keynote address from the Honorable Jason Crow, U.S. House of Representatives, a keynote address from Geisha Jimenez Williams, Principal at the American Energy Innovation Council, and a video address from the Honorable Pete Buttigieg, U.S. Secretary of Transportation.

We wrapped up the morning with a fireside chat with the Honorable Jennifer M. Granholm, U.S. Secretary of Energy, alongside Beth Zotter, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder at UMARO Foods, and Dr. Colin Wessells, Chief Executive Officer at Natron Energy, about their respective work advancing energy technologies.

The 2022 ARPA- Energy Innovation Summit concluded with a final visit to the technology showcase, where presenters had one last chance to show off their innovative technologies.
