Battery Circularity Workshop
ARPA-E hosted a workshop on technological challenges and opportunities in achieving a domestic and circular battery supply chain on June 12-13, 2023 in Chicago, IL.
This ARPA-E workshop sought to enhance the pace of technological innovation necessary to achieve a circular and domestic battery supply chain for the transportation sector. It aimed to explore challenges and opportunities in novel materials as well as in designing and manufacturing EV battery cells and packs with the end of life in mind while considering recycling as a process of last resort. It also focused on the development of analytical tools and metrics to assess the circularity of the battery supply chain.
Participants had the opportunity to:
- Discuss progress and advances in materials, cell and pack designs and manufacturing methods;
- Identify key technical challenges;
- Propose potential solutions;
- Network with key stakeholders; and
- Share their experiences in the field.
