Three weeks ago, nearly 1,800 energy innovators, investors, and policymakers gathered at the ninth annual ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit to discuss cutting-edge energy technologies, and how to best transition technologies out of the lab.

During the three-day program, attendees from across the U.S. and 15 other countries heard from industry and government leaders, networked at focused receptions and panel discussions, and saw first-hand nearly 300 technologies featured in ARPA-E’s Technology Showcase. This year’s showcase featured technology-focused tours and six technology demonstrations.

Highlights from the 2018 ARPA-E Summit include:

•  Over 100 expert speakers, including The Honorable Paul M. Dabbar, Under Secretary for Science, Department of Energy, U.S. Senator Michael Bennet, Rear Admiral David J. Hahn, Chief of U.S. Naval Research, Norm Augustine, Co-Chair, American Energy Innovation Council and many more
•  Video greeting to Summit attendees from Energy Secretary Rick Perry
•  20 dynamic panel sessions, among them “Machine Learning: Making Energy Technologies Groovier, Faster & Cheaper” and “The End of the Road for the Internal Combustion Engine?”
•  19 ARPA-E Program Directors and Fellows "Fast Pitches" - a rapid-paced succession of exciting current program concepts as well as some completely new, “out-of-the-box” ideas
•  Networking sessions with over 20 government agency partners, including from the Department of Energy Department of Defense, and other government offices 
•  Two new videos showcasing the achievements of ARPA-E project teams
•  Video comments from congressional leaders including Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) and Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN).
