Geologic H2 Workshop

Week of April 3, 2023

Virtual

The Advanced Research Projects Agency - Energy (ARPA-E) of the U.S. Department of Energy hosted a virtual workshop to evaluate the potential for a program to identify technologies focused on developing geologic hydrogen as a carbon-free energy alternative. The virtual workshop’s goal was to identify disruptive R&D pathways necessary for developing a geologic hydrogen sector. The general session included technical presentations and Q&A. Facilitated breakout sessions included exploration and characterization methods for H2 reserves; stimulation approaches to producing geologic H2; and subsurface engineering technologies needed to manage H2 reservoirs. An additional breakout session for PD/community interaction was also scheduled.

Agenda Item
Geologic H2: Stimulating a New Primary Energy Source
Breakout A: Resource Identification
Breakout B: Stimulation
Breakout C: Subsurface Engineering
